Join the Maroondah Symphony Orchestra for an unforgettable afternoon of music, featuring four iconic composers. The concert begins with Mozart’s thrilling Don Giovanni Overture , setting the stage for a night of drama and energy. Next, Sibelius’ Valse Triste offers a hauntingly beautiful waltz, full of bittersweet elegance and longing. Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C , performed by a brillante soloist, delights with its sparkling melodies and emotional depth. The concert concludes with Beethoven’s revolutionary Symphony No. 1 , blending classical tradition with bold innovation. This concert promises to be a captivating afternoon of beauty, brilliance, and musical storytelling.
Soloist: Jack Overall, Cello
Cellist Jack Overall completed his Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours under the tutelage of Simon Cobcroft at the Elder Conservatorium, and currently studies with Howard Penny at the Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne. He has performed with the Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra Symphony Orchestras, Australian Youth Orchestra, Adelaide Baroque, and as part of the Coriole Music Festival and Chamber Music Adelaide’s On The Terrace.
Recent performance highlights include a national tour with the Australian Chamber Orchestra as an emerging artist for 2025, Brett Dean’s Imaginary Ballet performing with the composer, and Schoenberg’s monumental Gurrelieder with the Sydney Symphony under the direction of Simone Young.
Jack is also passionate about bringing to life new and diverse music. He has played Chinese traditional music with the Adelaide School of Chinese Music and Arts, folk-pop as a member of the band Minnie Little, and published a short-film collaboration with filmmaker Agatha Yim.
