Classics With a Twist
No, this doesn’t refer to a 1950s dance craze, but to this strange looking instrument!
Come and hear the tuneful Weber bassoon concerto played on the contraforte, a new version of the contrabassoon. It’s guaranteed to make you smile!
Soloist: Brock Imison (Contraforte)
Brock Imison has held the position of Principal Contrabassoon with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra since 2004. He has been a guest principal bassoonist for the Maribor festival in Slovenia and is a regular member of the Australian World Orchestra and Australian Chamber Orchestra. Brock strives to improve the profile of the contrabassoon, premiering new music in solo recitals, arranging chamber music and hosting workshops for composers to learn more about the instrument. In this concert he will perform his arrangement of Weber’s tuneful and exhilarating bassoon concerto on a modern version of the contrabassoon, the contraforte. Brock will talk about and demonstrate some of the unique characteristics of this remarkable instrument.
